During National Native American Heritage Month, we honor the traditions, languages, and stories of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and affiliated Island communities and ensure their rich histories and contributions continue to thrive with each passing generation. Other notable dates and celebrations this month include:
- Election Day, November 7. As Susan B. Anthony said, “Someone struggled for your right to vote. Use it.”
- World Kindness Week, November 13-19, a time to “learn, teach, and share our kindness with others.”
- Thanksgiving Day, a holiday in the U.S. for to express gratitude, enjoy time with family, and volunteer to help those less fortunate.

Mindset of the Month: 100% Accountable
100% Accountable teaches us that we are not victims of our past, our future is not predetermined, and our lives are what we choose from this moment onward. With a focus on recognizing fears and excuses, this mindset allows us to break down barriers, freeing our minds and focusing our energy to take the critical steps toward our goals. #100%Accountable
Best Practices
To create a learning environment where everyone understands that we grow through life, it is essential to provide opportunities for both students and faculty to break down barriers and focus their energy. Here are three of our Classroom Integration strategies that encourage students to embrace a growth mindset and feel empowered to grow:
- The Power of Yet – When students suggest they are not good at something, simply add the word ‘yet’ to their statement. For example, if a student says they are not good at a subject, you can authentically and truthfully respond by saying, “You are not good yet.” This helps them understand that they are capable; they need to do the work and grow their brain toward competence.
- Reset, Rewind, and Replay – Work with students at critical times to understand the consequences of their actions and provide the opportunity for them to correct and restore. For example, when things are going in the wrong direction, ask students to stop and give them a few moments to reflect and reset. Now ask them to rewind and replay the situation in a more positive and constructive manner.
- Celebrate Growth – Work with students to find internal rewards from personal growth rather than external awards and recognition. When students succeed, encourage them to celebrate the person rather than a grade or award.
“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” – Caroline Flack, 2019
World Kindness Week, celebrated the second full week of November, is a time to highlight good deeds in our communities and focus on the positivity that surrounds us every day. Jenna Storrer, a member of our Education Services team, compiled a selection of kindness-themed activities, videos, and more that are available in the 7 Mindsets platform. School Spotlight

Aspen Ridge Preparatory School is a charter school in Erie, Colorado, that serves approximately 600 students, PreK-grade 8. We selected 7 Mindsets as our social/ emotional learning curriculum to support and positively impact the entire school community. This program has created a common language and opportunities for our students and staff to grow and learn from each other. At Aspen Ridge, the 7 Mindsets are the foundation for all that we do.
The initial implementation of the 7 Mindsets program included professional development for staff, which is continued through cycles to maintain enthusiasm and commitment to the program. We created a 7 Mindsets Committee that strategically developed a comprehensive plan for implementation, designed a year at a glance, and supported efforts to make the 7 Mindsets come alive within the school. Beyond teaching the lessons in the classrooms, the school has integrated the 7 Mindsets into our monthly character awards and positive referral process. This has had a tremendous impact on our entire school community. We continuously witness our students applying the skills they learn from the 7 Mindsets in their daily interactions, whether in the classroom, on the playground, or in the community. Teachers and staff often model and utilize the 7 Mindsets language when working with students and each other.
The 7 Mindsets program has created a culture of learning, growing, and understanding that connects our entire school community. This program continues to be an integral part of the Aspen Ridge community and provides opportunities for our students and staff to be resilient, motivated individuals.
